The initial focus was primarily on Arabica coffee, planted in the cooler, higher altitudes of the western highlands, particularly in regions like Oku, Banso, Bamaoun, Bamenda, Boyo, Bafoussam, Foumbot, and Dschang. Robusta coffee, more suited to lower altitudes and warmer climates, was introduced later and became popular in the southern and central regions. This early expansion laid the foundation for what would become a significant part of Cameroon’s agricultural economy, despite social-political challenges.
